SPECIAL JOURNEYS, PLANNED AROUND THE PERSON

Bucket-list and special occasion transport

Specialist stretcher transport for adults who are bedbound or need support to attend weddings, funerals, sporting events and meaningful days out.

Be there for the moments that matter

Important days are still important when someone becomes bedbound or needs specialist transport.

Some people want to share a family wedding or say goodbye at a funeral in person, rather than watch through a screen. Others hope to see their football or rugby team play, visit a favourite place or spend time together at a family event.

Medicar's bucket-list and special occasion journeys start with what the person wants to do. We then look at their transport and support needs, the route, the venue and the return journey, so the practical arrangements can be considered together.

THE OCCASION IS PERSONAL

Specialist transport for important days

A special journey can be about a milestone, a long-held wish or simply being with the people who matter.

Weddings and family celebrations

Stretcher transport to attend a wedding, share a ceremony, join part of a reception or be together at a family celebration. We plan around arrival times, access, positioning, time at the event and the journey home.

Attending funerals and memorial services

Transport for someone who wishes to attend a funeral, memorial or celebration of life. A chance to say goodbye in person, with arrangements discussed sensitively around the service and the passenger's comfort.

Football, rugby and sporting events

A favourite team, a special fixture or a match someone has been looking forward to. Stadium access, a suitable position for the passenger and equipment, and the event organiser's agreement need to be confirmed in advance.

Bucket-list visits and meaningful days out

A favourite place, a family reunion or a long-awaited event. You do not have to call it a bucket-list trip. If being there matters to someone, tell us what they have in mind and we can discuss the possibilities.

Planning the whole journey

The destination is only part of the plan. With the person's permission, we can discuss the practical arrangements with family, care staff and the venue.

The person and their support

Tell us about the required transport position, transfers and access at collection, along with the support normally provided by family or care staff. If a nurse or clinical escort is requested, this needs to be reviewed and agreed before booking.

The venue and the occasion

Share the venue contact, entrances, steps, lifts and the space available for a stretcher. Tickets, entry and an appropriate position inside the venue must be arranged with the organiser. Tell us which part of the day the person most wants to attend.

Time at the event and the return

We agree the outward journey, expected time at the destination and return arrangements. Waiting, support on site and a later collection need to be discussed in advance so the quotation reflects the whole plan.

A quote for the occasion you have in mind

Special occasions need an individual quotation. The route, equipment, staffing, venue access and time involved all affect what can be arranged. A booking is confirmed once the assessed journey and arrangements have been agreed.

From Colchester to occasions across East Anglia

Medicar is based in Colchester and considers suitable journeys across Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, the East of England and East London. Longer-distance requests can be discussed individually.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Questions about bucket-list and special occasion transport

Can someone who is bedbound attend a wedding?

A suitable journey may be possible with specialist stretcher transport. We review the person's transport and support needs, access at both ends, time at the wedding and return arrangements before confirming a booking.

Can you help someone attend a funeral on a stretcher?

Yes, a planned journey to attend a funeral or memorial service can be discussed. We consider the passenger's needs, service times, venue access, a suitable position during the ceremony and the return journey.

Can you take a passenger to a football or rugby match?

Potentially, where the passenger's needs and the venue can be appropriately supported. The organiser must agree suitable access and space for the passenger and equipment. Tickets and entry arrangements need to be confirmed separately.

Is bucket-list transport only for end-of-life requests?

No. A special journey can matter for many reasons. We consider the person's needs, the route and the occasion; it does not have to be an end-of-life request.

Will the crew wait and bring the person home?

Waiting, support at the destination and return transport must be agreed in advance. We can discuss waiting and returning together or a later collection, subject to the passenger's needs, staffing and availability. The final quote sets out what is included.

How much does special occasion stretcher transport cost?

We prepare an individual quote after reviewing the route, total time, venue access, equipment, crew and any requested clinical escort. Tell us about the occasion and the part of the day the person wants to attend so we can plan the whole journey.
